To have a quick start to take your xp/2k3 system image to run in ram, firstly you have to download the following two zip packages and unzip them into folders in your hard disk:
For using LiveCopy, you could setup g4dimdiskerunt.zip before setting up dala.zip as described below.
For using StillCopy, you must setup dala.zip before setting up g4dimdiskerunt.zip.
So setting up dala.zip before setting up g4dimdiskerunt.zip is the best choice.
This following setup order assumes you could use LiveCopy with la.exe. Otherwise, go to #5 of this thread to setup dala.zip before setting up g4dimdiskerunt.zip below:
After unzipping, go to the g4dimdiskerunt folder to run setup.exe inside:
In the above screen, you have to select the folder where Diskless Angel is installed. It is in the Program filesDiskless Angel folder of your system drive as indicated above. Then press Next:
In the above screen, you just press the LiveCopy button. Little Angel will then calculate the size of the Image File to be made for you. This is a mini-xp to be copied into the mini-xp.dsk file to be run later into ram for you:
The above screen asks you to select the .dsk image file to be made in the following screen. After pressing OK, the following screen of la will propose a default .dsk filename for you at your system drive. In this case, the system drive is quite full so you select a drive with sufficient diskspace to store this image file:
After clicking OK, you are returned to the main screen of la and you have just made the mini-xp image file to be run up to ram later. Now you click the Close Application X button at the upper right hand corner of la main screen to quit la:
After quitting from la, you now have to run up bootimage.exe in the g4dimdisk folder to specify the image file just made to be booted up into ram after rebooting:
After pressing the left hand side button to select the image file to be booted. It opens up the selct image file screen for you to select. After selecting the image file, you press the Open button to finish. bootimage.exe will then quit and return you to the Windows Desktop.

After pressing Restart, you reboot your machine and when coming to the following screen, you choose to start the grub4dos bootloader to load up the image file to boot into ram:
In the grub4dos menu, you select the fourth title now to boot miniexp.dsk into ram using the mapping method. After that, the miniexp.dsk image file you just made is booted to ram to run, so you have to wait for a moment. After that, you come back to the boot.ini menu and you then choose the first entry to run into Windows:
After going back into Windows, you open My Computer or Explorer, you can find a new drive as F: here in blue, meaning it is a compressed NTFS drive.
The system drive now becomes F: instead of C:. However if you choose the Fifth title in the grub4dos menu, then you hide the system drive in the hard disk and it disappears and the da virtual memory drive becomes C:
If you choose booting into Microsoft Windows under the boot.ini menu and come to this screen afterwards:

Don't panic, this is because you have hidden the system drive in the last step. So you reselect the grub4dos entry under the boot.ini menu and go into the grub4dos menu. Then you select the first title under the grub4dos menu as follows:
After going back into the Windows Desktop, you could go to the g4dimdsik folder and run up bootimage.exe again to create a non-system virtual memory disk for use as a temporary storage area. This is useful, for example, for storing temporary internet files or paging file.
So you can make a non-system ramdisk and make it available for use like this:
1. Run up bootimage.exe
2. Select Create Blank Image
3. Input the Image Size
The Image Size is in MB.
If you want to create a 512MB ramdisk for use, you can just type
512
That is OK.
The maximum size of ramdisk you can create is about 128MB less than the amount of physical system memory detected by your system when booting up.
